April Hower History 101: Hower Trade School: Beginnings

Join us for an informative peek at the past, the origin and history of the M.O. Hower Trade School. Founded by Blanche Bruot Hower, the Hower Trade School was influential in the growth of Akron and its industry beginning in 1932. Join us as we look learn about it and the American Trade School movement that motivated it.

Join us for an evening of art & culture at the elegant Hower House Musuem!

Felicia Zavarella Stadelman will present a painterly program on Impressionist Auguste Renoir, who had a colorful career. Light refreshments will be served following the event.

COST: $5.00 for Non-Members (FREE for current HHM Guild Members with Membership Card).

Summer Exhibit: Wedding Fashions through the Decades: 1880 – 1960s

Wedding gowns and related items and keepsakes will be on view from the Hower House Museum Collection and private collections; learn how bridal fashions evolved in response to world events. Available during tour times; groups by appointment. Admission charged.

Walking tour: Mr. Hower’s Neighborhood

In partnership with Progress Through Preservation of Greater Akron (PTP), we will present a special tour to celebrate the historic neighborhood of John Henry Hower. Participants will have an informative introduction to the area, then a self-guided walking tour of the neighborhood where his peers and colleagues lived. Tours will culminate in a tour of Mr. Hower’s home at 60 Fir Hill. Time & meet up location details TBA.
