April Hower History 101: Hower Trade School: Beginnings

Join us for an informative peek at the past, the origin and history of the M.O. Hower Trade School. Founded by Blanche Bruot Hower, the Hower Trade School was influential in the growth of Akron and its industry beginning in 1932. Felicia Zavarella Stadelman will present a painterly program on Impressionist, Auguste Renoir who had a colorful career. Light refreshments following the event. Les Fleurs Animees: a Mother’s Day Brunch Tea
Time: 10:00 am – 12:00 noon

Create a precious memory while sharing elegant tea fare with Mom, Grandma, daughter, favorite cousin, and/or special friends. Delicious tea, savories and sweets, a walk-thru tour & shopping in the Cellar Door Store. Limited seating with prepaid reservations;  $32 adults/$22 children ages 8-12. Summer exhibit: Wedding Fashions through the Decades: 1880 – 1960s

Wedding gowns and related items and keepsakes will be on view from the Hower Collection and private collections; learn how bridal fashions evolved in response to world events. Available during tour times; groups by appointment. Admission charged.

Walking tour: Mr. Hower’s Neighborhood
In partnership with Progress Through Preservation of Greater Akron (PTP), we will present a special tour to celebrate the historic neighborhood of John Henry Hower. Participants will have an informative introduction to the area, then a self-guided walking tour of the neighborhood where his peers and colleagues lived. Tours will culminate in a tour of Mr. Hower’s home at 60 Fir Hill. Time & meet up location details TBA.
