Upstairs-Downstairs: A History of Domestic Service
As part of the University of Akron’s “Rethinking Race”, enjoy a free and unique tour. Enter Hower House Museum through the service entrance and tour the spaces often overlooked during regular tours.
These spaces represent the history of domestic service work in America, an industry that still benefits primarily from the labor of immigrants and minorities.
Tours will be led by literary historian, Tine Hreno.

LOCATION: Hower House Museum, 60 Fir Hill, Akron Ohio
COST: $32 for adults/$22 for children ages 8-12.
Galentine’s Day is about “ladies celebrating ladies,” and Hower House Museum will be honoring all of our female friendships with a Victorian high tea. Bring your best friend.
Learn about the history of female friendships, especially those between the Hower women. Wander through the Hower’s elegant mansion, indulge in our Valentine-inspired menu, and shop at the Cellar Door Store.
